A new version of FF1 is now out, called Final Fantasty Anniversary Edition. Instead of a full-blown 3D remake like FF3 got (and FF4 is getting) on the DS, this new FF1 for the PSP is still in good ol' 2D. While still in the visual style of other remakes, it takes full advantage of the PSP's relatively high resolution. Sprites, backgrounds, etc. all have been redone larger and with more colors. Various new visuals are also featured, such as a limited view in dark dungeons.

All the new features, dungeons, monsters, etc. of the GBA version return, as well as the Playstation's FMVs. There is also a new time-based dungeon, which presumably features new monsters and items. Also interesting, the Japanese version features an English language option, a first for this game. This looks to be the best version of the game yet. It's just too bad they didn't add a difficulty option.

The US version just came out. I don't know yet if it's kept the same English translation, but the Japanese option is most likely gone. There's also an Anniversary Edition of FF2 with similar updates, which will be out in the US next month.

Man, I need to a get a PSP.
