INFO
Saurias usually appear alone, but may come in groups. They only show up near the end of the game.
STRATEGY
Since their Glance can turn you to stone, it's probably best to just run away. Also, they are in the Dragon category, so the Dragon Sword (Wyrm Killer) works well against them in the WSC version. Of course by the time you fight them you should have a better weapon anyway.
MYTH/ORIGIN/OTHER GAMES
Saurias are called Basilisks in the Japanese version. A basilisk is a mythical lizard whose glance can turn a person to stone. (It's also the name of a real tropical American lizard.) As for the name "Sauria", it comes from the word saurian, which means lizard. Basilisks can also be found in Dungeons & Dragons and Harry Potter, and they return in FF 2-4, 6, 9, and Mystic Quest. For more lizard info, see the IGUANA page.
