MYTH/ORIGIN/OTHER GAMES
Medusas have the same name in every version. The original picture was topless. Medusa comes from Greek myth. She was one of three sisters called the Gorgons, who had snakes for hair and whose glance could turn you to stone. (The others were named Stheno and Euryale, they were immortal, but Medusa was not.) She was defeated by Perseus who reflected her image back at her with a mirror. Her head was given to Athena and was placed on her aegis, which could be used to turn people to stone if they looked at it. (The Aegis Shield in this game protects against stone.) I seem to recall one story where Medusa was a normal woman who claimed to be more beautiful than Aphrodite and was punished for it. Medusa can be found in AD&D and the Castlevania series. They return in FF3, FF4, and Mystic Quest.
