INFO
The Eye is the boss of the Ice Cave, but they can also be found in the Sky Castle. You'll only ever fight one at a time.
STRATEGY
You can't run, so don't try. Its spells can be nasty, so use Fast and fight to win as fast as possible. The Rune Sword is effective in the WSC version, but you'd probably be better off using a stronger sword anyway.
MYTH/ORIGIN/OTHER GAMES
The Eye is called Beholder in the Japanese version, and Evil Eye on the WSC and Playstation. Beholder comes from AD&D. They are usually a large floating ball with a giant center eye and smaller eyes on stalks. (Get it? "Beholder", he's an eye. Hahaha.) The name was changed for legal reasons no doubt, as was the picture. Eye creatures of some kind appear in every FF. Ones that are at least somewhat Beholder-like appear in FF4, FF5, FF6, FF7, FF9, FF10, FF11, Mystic Quest, and Tactics. Ones that are specifically Beholder-like appear in FF5 and Mystic Quest. The name Beholder specifically is used in the English version of MQ, Evil Eye can be found in FF11, and Eye can be found in FF7.
