Along with the Fighter and Black Mage, the White Mage is in most of the most popular parties. She can cast most white magic spells and learn spell levels faster than the Red Mage. With the White Mage around you'll be using a lot less Potions and surviving longer in boss fights.

Pros: Great white magic user.

Cons: A little expensive, poor attack and defense, worst equipment choices.

In the Japanese version the White Mage is called "shiromajutsushi" , which seems to mean White Magician. I think White Mage is close enough. The White Mage is loosely based on the Cleric class from Dungeons & Dragons. This is evidenced by the White Mage mostly equipping hammers. While the name White Mage is used in the English versions of later games, they're actually White Wizards. This is often because the White Wizards in most games look more like the White Mage than this game's White Wizard.

The White Wizard is a nice upgrade from the White Mage. She is able to cast all white spells, and equip a couple of powerful things. She also has access to the second most powerful attack spell in the game.

Pros: Best white magic user.

Cons: A little expensive, poor attack and defense, poor equipment choices.

The White Wizard is called "shiromadoushi" in the Japanese version, which pretty much means the same thing. They appear in FF3, FF5, FF10-2, FF11, Tactics and the Chocobo games, and there are NPC White Wizards in FF4. FF4's Rosa & Porom, FF7's Aeris (Aerith), FF9's Dagger & Eiko, and FF10's Yuna are all White Wizards. FF6's Banon and FF2's Ming Wu (Minh) could also be considered White Wizards.
